Dimpled the electric trim cover plate. This was the second cover plate as I was not happy with the results of the first attempt. I felt that the dimples were too close to the edge and the plate would not sit flat. Dimpled the second one also but was a little more gentle. The photo on the right shows my first attempt at dimpling plate nuts. These take the screws that hold on the trim cover plate

September 17-18, 2002

Began work on right elevator spar and hinge reinforcement plates. Clamped and match drilled the right elevator horn to spar and root rib. This takes a little work to get it clamped in the right place so that the horn centerline is aligned with the spar centerline.

September 19, 22-23, 2002

Assembled right elevator skeleton assembly to skin and match drilled, deburred and dimpled. I will be using mostly blind rivets on the bottom skin to spar except for the first 4 holes on each end of the spar/skin where I'll use flush rivets. This is about as far as a decent size bucking bar will reach.

Began work on left elevator spar and hinge reinforcement plates. Clamped and match drilled left elevator horn using same method as right horn.

September 25-28, 2002

Assemble left elevator skeleton assembly to skin and match drilled, deburred and dimpled. Also using same rivet types on bottom skin to spar as on right elevator. The picture on the right shows the elevator trim spar being machine countersunk. This done so the bottom side of the spar is smooth as the trim hinge will be attached here.
