March 17-18, 2003

WINGS ARRIVE! Received the wing kit on Monday, March 17. Just some slight damage to the end of the spar box but it wasn't transferred to any parts inside.

Beautiful gold anodized spars and center section. Both crates were well packed by Van's. It took about 4 hours total to unpack and inventory. Only short 3 washers. Pretty impressive.

I only have enough room to build one wing at a time, so I am beginning on the left wing. The first step is to drill, debur, and countersink holes for the tank attach platenuts.

April 23-May 10, 2003

Off to Maui for a little R&R. Went to the beach about every day. A picture of me and the Mrs. on top of Haleakala volcano at 10,038 ft. msl. This is the highest point on Maui.

May 15-20, 2003

(Back to REALITY) All the tank attach platenut center holes are machine countersunk for #8 screws.

May 21, 2003

Countersank the spar platenut center holes for the wing inspection covers. Drilled, deburred and dimpled 3 inspection plate covers. These go on the bottom wing to allow access to various components within the wing.

Cleaned, Acid etched, alodined and primed all the machine countersunk holes in the spar. This will help to prevent corrosion on the bare aluminum.  Don't want any corrosion on the wing spars!
